Summit Volunteer Program

Register Today

Host, the IPTI (International Police Training Institute) are recruiting volunteers from the greater Ottawa metropolitan area and beyond to help support the 'Together Let's Stop Traffick' Summit on Human Trafficking taking place between November 14 - 17 2013 at the Westin Ottawa, Canada.

'Together Let's Stop Traffick' represents the first phase of a four-pronged program to build an International Resource and Coordination Centre.

The plan is for a series of interlinked national centres to follow, replicating the blueprint established over the four-day Summit.

Why are volunteers needed?

Volunteers are needed to assist summit staff and host ambassadors with support services not funded by summit fees.  Support services include attendee information and direction guidance; event assistance; summit set-up details; facilitation coordination; security detail, and venue logistics.

Who can volunteer?

Anyone over 18, who would like to volunteer, is eligible.  We welcome volunteers from a wide range of disciplines, including law enforcement agencies; non-profit organizations and educational institutions.

All volunteers must register and be approved to participate in the summit.

What types of volunteer are needed?

The summit recruits volunteers to assist with different service areas.

  1. Summit Assistant – support on-site Summit set up; assist with registration; take tickets; provide information and direction to guests
  2. Summit Guide – provide general information and directions to attendees at the Summit centre; monitor attendee access at special functions
  3. Operations Assistant – assist with special function set-up details at the venue (eg. volunteer centre, command centre); assist with security during the Summit; other operational tasks

How many volunteers are needed?

Total number of volunteers needed, per function and day will vary, and will therefore be scheduled based on determined need.  Overall, the summit expects to recruit 50-75 volunteers to support activities and tasks.

When are volunteers needed?

Volunteers are needed on set-up day and the days of the summit. Volunteers are recruited to serve in four-hour shifts, with up to three blocks being scheduled per day.

How do volunteers register for service?

Volunteers can register online on the Volunteer Registration page and complete a brief electronic form to provide contact information and indicate their preferred type of service, (listed above).  In addition, volunteers also select up to three shifts depending on their day/time availability.

How are volunteers assigned?

The Summit assigns volunteers to tasks and functions based on Summit requirements, and volunteers' availability as indicated on their registration forms. On completion of the online form, each volunteer will receive a confirmation of registration with additional information, schedule, and assignment following shortly thereafter.

How are volunteers supported and trained at the conference?

The Summit will have an official volunteer centre where volunteers will check-in daily, report for duty and receive instructions and training. The Summit has professional planners and committee officials who will support volunteers, and provide guidance during the performance of duties.

Community service credit is awarded for volunteer service.
